| Big Jay Harrison and the Jive Flyers |
Vocalist/brassman Big Jay Harrison has backed such artists as Tony Bennett, Dionne Warwick, Bob Hope, Engelbert Humperdinck, and Kenny Rogers. As a bandleader, Jay has fronted ensembles at various festivals, including the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Ottawa Jazz Festival, and the Quebec Worldbeat Festival. He also plays lead trombone with the Ron Paley Big Band, performs with Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra and leads his own quartet, dance band, and big band. The Jive Flyers are known in Winnipeg for their dynamic stage show, outstanding horn section, and hard-edged groove. Harrison sings the classic standards of Louis Prima, Ray Charles, and the Powder Blues, with a little western swing and traditional Dixie to round out the repertoire. Big Jay Harrison and the Jive Flyers present an eclectic jump/swing/blues show that “rocks as well as it bops!"
