Pianist David Virelles blends the music of his Cuban heritage with contemporary American jazz to create a truly distinct sound. In 1999, David met Canadian jazz great Jane Bunnett when she visited his hometown conservatory in Cuba. As a result of this meeting, Virelles moved to Canada where his musical career began to flourish. He has toured around the world and appeared on many of Bunnett’s critically acclaimed recordings. In 2007, the David Virelles Quintet released their debut album, Motion. The intelligent recording highlights David’s virtuosity while breaking free from predictable music forms. At just 23, David Virelles has emerged as one of the most exciting jazz pianists in Canada.
