G-Funk Ensemble

The G-Funk Ensemble is a brand new Winnipeg group co-led by Gilles Fournier and Ken Gold. Fournier is a bass virtuoso who has performed with jazz greats Arturo Sandoval, Kevin Eubanks, and Tito Puente. Besides leading his own sextet and funk/jazz band Ego Spank, he has performed with the Ron Paley Big Band, the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, and Papa Mambo. He also plays washboard and guitar and sings in the band Johnny Cajun. Originally from Montreal, Gold is an active Winnipeg saxophonist in both the jazz and pop music scenes. He works on all the saxophones as well as a number of other instruments and performs in a wide range of styles and settings.  Ken has strong roots in bebop as well as R&B and latin music. The G-Funk Ensemble is a group is dedicated to melding the best of R&B and funk with a jazz perspective. Featuring a stellar group of Winnipeg musicians that are sure to make you feel the groove: Gilles Fournier on bass, Ken Gold on alto and baritone saxophones, Dave Lawton on trumpet, Chuck McClelland on tenor saxophone, Marc Arnould on keyboards, Joe Landreth on guitar and Daniel Roy on drums.
