Erin Propp and Larry Roy

There is nuance in the everyday: in its layers of love, joy, and hurt, and in its emotional currents ever present. Erin Propp and Larry Roy reach into the everyday and blur the edges, creating works that are at once deeply personal and achingly relatable. These are songs that take it all in, that read between the lines, that hear the subtext, that feel it, that say it out loud.

Their music rings true with nuance and power, with rare clarity and precision. Their musical abilities are tools of exacting expression, expertly honed. They reach in to resonate; calling the listener inside, sounding the overtones of our shared experience.

Erin and Larry’s debut album Courage, My Love (2012) was met with praise and acclaim. The recording won Best Jazz Album of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards (2013) and a Juno nomination in the category of Vocal Jazz Album of the Year (2014). Erin and Larry can do it all, from charming intimate club sets to moving concert hall performances, and key arts organizations have taken note. Erin and Larry have performed with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, and have opened for Gretchen Parlato at the TD Winnipeg International Jazz Festival. The second studio album from this Manitoba duo, We All Want the Same Things, was released earlier this year.

Marco Castillo Trio

Winnipeg, the multicultural capital of Canada, is very lucky to have such an amazing artist like Marco Castillo to represent the vast and complex culture of Brazil. Born in the Capital Samba, Rio de Janeiro, he was raised in a musical family and that's evident in his musical knowledge. Afro-Brazilian & Latin Samba-Jazz Funk probably best describes Marco's music. Blending the unique traditional rhythms and contemporary sounds of Brazil with lush jazz-voicings and epidemic grooves, Marco has been impressing international audiences around the globe. A talented multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and bandleader, Castillo made Canada his home in 2006. Following in his father's footsteps, a man who recorded tons of albums (including with Nat King Cole) and toured the world with Trio Irakitan, Marco's skills were honed at the feet of the best. Castillo's extensive musical and rhythmic expertise spans from the gentle, warm musical embrace of the romantic Bossa-Nova, rustic and contagious root rhythms of Baião, and the festive, upbeat, exuberant Samba, to the velvety sounds of Smooth Jazz, and alluring, infectious funky grooves.

Casati

Casati is best characterized as a folk trio with an open mind. Grace Hrabi, Jesse Popeski, and Quintin Bart are formally trained musicians and graduates of the University of Manitoba's jazz studies program. In the last three years as a band, they have found their voice as a unique blend of all the music that inspires them: the heartbreak of a country ballad, the vocal harmonies of 1950s and ‘60s pop, and the instrumental virtuosity of jazz and classical music, creating a sound that is familiar yet original.
