Itamar Borochov

Sunday June 23 @ 5:15 PM
Old Market Square

Raised in the cosmopolitan port city of Jaffa, now a significant presence on the New York jazz scene, Borochov is creating a new musical hybrid - bringing the sacred sounds of his upbringing to a classic jazz quartet setting.

After working with such legendary artists as Curtis Fuller and Candido Camero, and having served as arranger and co-producer for acclaimed world music sensation Yemen Blues, Borochov set out on his own path.

On his new album Blue Nights, a multi-cultural joyride through Middle Eastern styles fused with Western jazz, Itamar spins out nine tracks in a virtuosic, highly personalized argot that synthesizes his experiences in bebop, post-bop, and African inspirations. It has been described by Downbeat as "Stunning themes of spirituality, balance, and equality."

Borochov has performed internationally at such prestigious venues and festivals as Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, SummerStage at Central Park, Roskilde Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival, Moscow Jazz Festival, and many more.
