Initially a jazzman, Dutch saxophonist Yuri Honing first gained critical acclaim with his trio recording, Star Tracks (1996), an album consisting only of pop songs that he uses as a basis for improvisation. His aptly named seventh album, Seven (2001), earned him the prestigious Edison (Dutch Grammy) Award. Nowadays, Honing divides his attention between two groups: the Yuri Honing Acoustic Quartet and his electric band, Yuri Honing Wired Paradise. Both groups demonstrate Honing’s open mindedness, and find him blending is jazz roots with his love for pop music, Arabic music, and electronics; a process that he perfected during his career, producing a whopping 18 albums, his latest being 2016’s Desire.
