Zachary Rushing Quartet

Zachary+Rushing.jpg

Zachary Rushing is an emerging vocalist on the Canadian music scene. A transplant to Winnipeg via Seattle, Washington, he brings with him a seasoned sound rich in varied influences and styles.

He has performed musical theater, contemporary pop, classical and more, though he is most at home with the jazz tradition stemming from the Great American Songbook. His musical style is influenced by Sarah Vaughan, Betty Carter, Joni Mitchell and more, but his individual perspective gives him the ability to reinvent their traditions into something entirely fresh and new. An avid musical explorer, he enjoys pushing the limits of what it means to be a jazz vocalist by exploring underrepresented work in the jazz canon, and rearranging unconventional material for more traditional ensembles.

The Zachary Rushing Quartet is Zachary Rushing on vocals, Dhiego Costa on keyboard, Jared Beckstead on bass, and Kevin Waters on drums.

Jennifer Hanson Trio

Jennifer Hanson's reputation for great vocal chops, appearances singing national anthems at NHL games and touring the country with her band has attracted the attention of fans of all ages.

Her torchy, seductive vocal style is among the finest of current jazz singers, while her stage presence is that of the classic generation of singers like Rosemary Clooney, Julie London and Linda Rondstadt. She's definitely not just another voice in the crowd. Well, maybe she is, but she’s louder and perhaps more on pitch.

Her repertoire runs the gamut from the jazz standard songbook and torchy heartbreakers to a large selection of blues, rock and R&B.

She also knows the anthems of at least 10 countries, just in case.

The trio features vocalist Jennifer Hanson, guitarist Murray Pulver, and bassist Gilles Fournier.

Woody Holler

Woody Holler.jpg

Woody Holler grew up on the Canadian prairie hearing the songs of the cowboy. Although he was later trained in opera, a sense of nostalgia held him close to those western roots.

In 2009, Woody teamed up with some of Winnipeg’s finest jazz musicians and began purveying his own brand of western swing. Since 2010, the band has showcased very successfully across western Canada, which has led to several tours from across the prairies to the Atlantic and the Pacific. They have enjoyed a tour of the Northwest Territories and past the arctic circle. In 2016, the band spent three weeks touring England on behalf of the Northern England Arts Network. Their first album, Western Skies, was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award in 2010.

The band features Woody Holler on vocals and guitar, Daniel Koulak on bass, Artur Kivilaht on guitar, and Jeremy Penner on violin.
