Copenhagen-based ECM Records artist Jakob Bro first enchanted Winnipeg audiences opening for Gregory Porter at the Burton Cummings Theatre during our 2017 festival. Jakob’s ambient, patient guitar stylings draw from a similar stylistic well as label-mate Bill Frisell. The trio will be touring in support of their stunning new album Bay Of Rainbows.
Joined by acclaimed drummer Joey Barron (Chet Baker, Stan Getz, Bill Frisell, John Zorn) and leading bassist Thomas Morgan (regular on ECM Records, Verve, Blue Note releases) , the trio has released a series of highly acclaimed albums through legendary jazz + classical label ECM Records.
About BlinkerPhase (Winnipeg): Sheena Rattai and Daniel Jordan began messing around with looping guitar riffs, grooves, and building songs on Garageband via email in between playing with their primary project, Red Moon Road. Since then they have a collection of songs that sound somewhere between Tune-Yards and D'Angelo. An outlet for their many "non-folk" musical influences, BlinkerPhase explores groove and improvisation within the confine of set harmonic repetition. Relying on the "chords staying the same," BlinkerPhase seeks to explore how much else can be done within the song.
This project premiered for Nu Sounds 2017 and returns now for a second Jazz Winnipeg show.
