In 2017 Oshawa-born R&B singer-songwriter Daniel Caesar had one hell of a year. Caesar's intimate, dark, and ambient-tinged soul made an immediate impression on critics and fans alike. His debut studio album, Freudian, earned two GRAMMY nominations; made numerous appearances on the late-night TV circuit; sold out five straight shows at Toronto’s venerable Danforth Music Hall; and his face was suddenly plastered on billboards, bus shelters and video screens above Yonge-Dundas Square. At 22, Caesar has become one of R&B’s most talked-about talents, even though -- or perhaps because -- he’s more of a classic soul man than a trend-chaser.
